1955. On 15 July 1955, the public health service on Åland received a licence from the Government of Åland to install one gaming machine each at the Societetshuset and Miramar restaurants.
1966. Until 1966, the non-profit making organisations operated their own gambling and gaming machines, with the profits going to the respective enterprises. In connection with a bill for a new Lottery Act on Åland, in 1965 thoughts turned to an Åländic equivalent to Finland’s gambling machine association, leading to the birth of Paf (Ålands Penningautomatförening) on 31 October 1966. Gaming began on 1 January 1967 in collaboration with the member associations behind Paf: the public health service on Åland, the Åland branch of Save the Children, the Finnish Red Cross and the child welfare foundation Stiftelsen Dagens Barn.
1968. Paf took over 36 gaming machines from the member associations and purchased 15 new machines, all of the pajazzo type. Skill games contributed to an upturn in business.
1973. Paf acquired sole rights for gaming onboard Åländic-registered car ferries, and the net return began to take off.
1974. The association’s first business manager Arne Winter left and Lars Porko took up the first full-time position as business manager on 1 October 1974. He was then appointed managing director on 25 September 1978.
1985. In April, the subsidiary Paf Consulting began its international venture and was successful in the face of tough competition in winning the licence for gaming onboard Viking 6 in the English Channel.
1991. The daler was launched as a local means of payment, but was stopped by the national authorities. The rescue boat Paf was bought with the expropriation profits.
1999. Internet gaming on www.paf.fi was launched on 3 December. The first form of gambling was betting. Today, the business also encompasses gaming machines, casino gaming, bingo and lotteries, poker and skill games.
2001. Paf signed a joint venture agreement with the Swedish company ATG aimed at betting on horse races.
2003. Paf opened its own casino in the centre of Mariehamn, Casino Paf .
2006. Paf celebrated its 40th birthday on 31 October.
